How to Make a Histogram of the Ages of Presidents at Inauguration
A histogram is a kind of graph that charts the distribution of numbers in a set. In a histogram, the x-axis tracks the numbers themselves, while the y-axis charts the frequency with which those numbers appear in that set. Thus, in a histogram charting the ages of presidents at inauguration, the x-axis would track the ages themselves, while the y-axis would chart the number of presidents inaugurated at those ages.
Instructions

-
1
Obtain the ages of each of the 44 presidents at the time of their inaugurations. The ages of U.S. presidents at the time of inauguration vary from 42 to 69 years of age.
-
2
Draw one vertical line and one horizontal line, intersecting a corner to form a half-square graph shape. You can draw your graph with a pencil on standard graph paper. Allow two squares of the graph paper to represent one year, so that your graph is easily legible.
-
-
3
Label the horizontal line -- the x-axis -- as the presidents' ages. Each mark on that line can represent an inaugural age. You can start at 42 and make a mark for each age up to the oldest: 69 years. There is no need to repeat ages for the number of presidents who were inaugurated at that age; each age need appear only once.
-
4
Label the vertical line -- the y-axis -- as the distribution of those ages. In other words, the y-axis charts the number of times those ages appear on the list of inaugural ages of U.S. presidents. The amount of distribution of the list goes from 1 to 4.
-
5
Label the intersecting point of the x and y axes as "0."
-
6
Draw vertical rectangles stretching from each age on the x-axis to its distribution number on the y-axis and then fill in those rectangles.
-
7
Give your graph a factual title, such as "The Ages of U.S. Presidents at the Time of Their Inauguration."

Tips & Warnings
The youngest inaugural age is 42, which appears only once. After that, 43 appears once, 46 appears twice, 47 appears once, 48 appears three times, 49 appears twice, 50 appears twice, 51 appears four times, 52 appears twice, 54 appears five times, 55 appears four times, 56 appears three times, 57 appears four times, 58 appears once, 60 appears once, 61 appears three times, 62 appears twice, 64 appears once, 65 appears once, 68 appears once and 69 also appears once.
There is no need to list the names of the presidents inaugurated at each age on your graph. You can, however, add an addendum with the list of names and ages.
