How to Follow Oral Directions as Kids thumbnail
Kids can easily follow oral directions.

An oral direction is when someone tells you what to do out loud. This is one of the main ways that you will be instructed and will be able to understand. Kids are capable of listening and following oral directions from an early age. There are several ways to improve your ability to follow oral directions and keep up with what is expected of you.

Instructions

    • 1

Listen carefully whenever you are told anything. Hear the words that are being said and try to understand them.

    • 2

Pay close attention whenever someone is speaking to you. Look at the person speaking. Try to block out anything else that is happening around you and concentrate on the directions that are being told to you.

    • 3

Ask questions or ask for an explanation if you don't understand what someone is asking you to do. Raise your hand or ask in another polite way to make sure that you are following directions correctly and that you know what is expected of you.

    • 4

Follow the first direction that is given. Then, if nothing else has been given, stop where you are and wait for further instructions. Do not assume that since you have followed one direction you know what is coming next. Keep paying attention and listening for the next instruction.
