How to Disable Copy and Paste in an E-Book

An electronic book, or eBook, is a digital version of a physical book that can be distributed electronically. After writing an eBook, one of the most important things you need to do is to disable the feature that allows users to copy the book. This will prevent users from copying the content of your book for their own purposes, such as repackaging and selling your book as their own work. Most eBook creation software has a built-in option to prevent users from copying and pasting content.

Instructions

1. Launch your eBook creation software. Adobe Acrobat, Calibre and ebookgold are examples of eBook creation software. Click "File" on the menu bar, choose "Open" and navigate to the eBook you want to secure. Double-click the file to open it in the application window.

2. Click "Properties" and select "Preferences" or "Advanced" from the menu bar, depending on the application. Although each software manufacturer is different, they employ a similar method to disable eBook copying.

3. Select "Security" or "Settings" from the drop-down list and deselect the check box next to "Enable copying," "Enable Print and Copy" or "Enable Copying Of Text, Images, And Other Content." The exact wording of the phrase to enable copying will depend on the software manufacturer.

4. Click "Save" or "OK" to save the changes.
