How to Soak and Cook on Cedar Planks
Cedar planks not only emit a pleasant aroma but add smoky flavor to foods. The food is set on the plank while the wood heats on the grill and releases penetrating smoke. Salmon cooks well on cedar planks, which also pair well with other fish, meat and vegetables. Things You'll Need
- Cedar plank
- Large bowl or pan
- Olive oil
- Food to be cooked
- Insulated cooking gloves

Rinse the cedar plank to remove dust and debris.

Place the plank in large bowl or pan. Cover with warm tap water to submerge it completely. You may need to weigh down the plank with a heavy object to keep it submerged.

Allow the plank to soak at least an hour. For best results, soak overnight.

Brush the smooth side of the cedar plank with olive oil. It will prevents food from sticking.

Place food directly on the cedar plank. Heat the grill and place plank directly on the grate. Avoid placing the plank over open flames so that it does not catch fire. Close grill lid. Check food often until cooked as desired. Remove carefully from grill while wearing insulated cooking gloves.

Tips & Warnings
Spray cedar plank with water if it starts to catch on fire.
Soak cedar planks in white wine, apple cider or beer to add flavor.
Never soak the cedar planks in liquor. Alcohol can ignite.
Do not cook on Eastern cedar, white cedar, inland cedar or woods that are chemically treated. They will contaminate your food.
