How to Get Out of Prison Early in Florida

How to Get Out of Prison Early in Florida thumbnail
As of February 2011, there were 100,866 inmates in Florida prisons and 392 on death row.

Florida, as of June 2010, has 144 prison facilities, 62 major institutions, 42 work camps, one treatment center, 34 release centers and five road prisons. Prison inmates in the state of Florida have little hope of early release, due to state laws that prevent prisoners from being released early. With the help of a lawyer, though, and thorough research, a prisoner may be eligible for parole or an appeal (depending on each case or record).

Instructions

    • 1

Contact a lawyer to discuss available options. In Florida, early release credits were discontinued in 1994 due to reduction in prison admissions and a massive and accelerated prison building program. (For more information on contacting a lawyer, see "Lawyer" in Resources.)

    • 2

Review inmate convictions and records to determine if he is eligible for parole. In Florida, parole was eliminated in 1983, except for capital crimes. A deterministic "Sentencing Guidelines" structure, administered by the Supreme Court, was implemented for all felony convictions. Reduced sentences and house arrests were also implemented.

    • 3

Research the inmate's case to find loopholes. If faulty evidence or an unfair trial seems apparent, enter into an appellate procedure. (For more information on the rules of an appeal and filing, see "Appeal" in Resources.)
