Instructions to Fold a Napkin

Folding napkins for a dinner party can make them look more elegant.

If you are going to host a dinner party or celebratory event, it is important to arrange the tables in a way that will look elegant and sophisticated. One way to do this is to fold the dinner napkins in different ways, just like a fancy hotel or restaurant would do. Using these simple techniques, you can make your table look elegant without having to spend a lot of money.

Instructions

Buffet Napkin

1. Place a fabric napkin flat onto a table top.

2. Fold the bottom edge to meet the top edge, effectively folding the napkin in half. The fold should be at the bottom.

3. Fold the top front edge over to meet the bottom edge. This will create a fold in the center of the form.

4. Turn the napkin over, and fold both sides to the center. When you turn the napkin back over, there will be a pocket in which you can insert the silverware.

Candle Napkin

1. Place a fabric napkin flat onto a table top.

2. Fold the bottom right-hand corner over to meet the upper left-hand corner. This will turn the napkin into a triangle.

3. Roll up 2 inches of the napkin, starting at the right-hand edge.

4. Turn the napkin over so the fold is facing down and the point is facing up, and roll the entire napkin up. Start at the left-hand corner, rolling toward the right-hand corner, making each roll 2 inches wide.

5. Tuck the right-hand corner into the fold, and place silverware inside the roll. Stand a candle napkin upright at each place setting.

Sail Boat Napkin

1. Place a fabric napkin flat onto a table top.

2. Fold the upper left-hand corner of the napkin over to meet the lower right-hand corner. This will form a triangle. Adjust the triangle so the fold is at the bottom and the point is at the top.

3. Hold the left corner, and fold it downward so the top edge meets the center of the triangle. This will cause the left corner point to face straight down.

4. Hold the right corner, and fold it downward so the top edge meets the center of the triangle. This will cause the right corner point to face straight down.

5. Fold both of the downward-facing corners upward to meet the center point of the triangle. Fold up the bottom edge once more to meet the center point, which will create a sail boat with a pocket into which you can insert silverware.
