How to File Your Papers in Boxes
When you have papers that are important for you to protect, it is imperative that you find an organized way to file them. While a filing cabinet will get the job done, they are expensive and not very portable. Paper boxes allow you to keep everything organized and still let you move your files from place to place without the need for a hand-truck. The only issue with boxes is that you need to install a support system for the files to hang from.
Things You'll Need
- Measuring tape
- Hanging folder frame
- Pliers
- Hanging folder tabs
- Hanging folders

1
Measure the length of your box. Transfer this measurement to one of the two side rails of your hanging folder frame. Place your pliers at the spot of the measurement and twist, snapping the end off of the side rail. Do the same thing to the other side rail.
-
2
Connect the side rails to the other two pieces of the hanging folder frame. This process will be different depending on your type of frame, but for most it is simply threading the rails through loops on the ends of the frame pieces. Place the completed frame inside your box.

3
Develop an organizational system for the files you are putting inside the box. Some common systems are: alphabetical, where each file is stored based on its name or title, sequential, where each file is stored based on when it was created or received, or grouped, where each file is sorted into different sections based on a certain criteria. Decide if certain files that you use more often need to be placed at the front of the box for easy access after you have the main system set up.

4
Place each file into a hanging file folder. Files that will be stored together, like all files for "April" in a sequential system, can go into the same folder.
-
5
Write the name of each folder on a hanging folder tab. Insert the pointed ends of the tab into the slots on the top of the folder.
-
6
Place the folders into your box, with the hooks at the ends of the folders resting on the sides of the frame. Repeat the process for every box you need.
