How to Set a Spinning Wind Chime
Mounting and setting a spinning wind chime properly can make the difference between adding character to your front or back porch and having your wind chime fall after a strong gust of wind. The spinning wind chime is connected to a spinning mechanism and a wire. The mechanism allows the chime to spin without becoming tangled. The beams on the outside of your house are sturdy places to hang the metal hook and wind chime.

Choose the type of hook that you want to put up. You can choose from a hook that twists in or a hook that hammers into your wooden beams. If you do not have a hammer, use the twisted hook. If you do have a hammer, the original hook is your best bet, because it may be difficult to twist a hook into a wooden beam.

Hammer or twist the hook into the desired spot. Choose a spot that gets enough wind to spin the wind chime. Areas like the front of your house or the house's awning should receive enough wind to spin the chime. When you have mounted the hook into place, it should resemble a "J" shape.

Take the string from the wind chime and bring it over the "J" of the hook. If the wind chime is extra heavy, you may have to twist or hammer another hook to the left or right of the original hook. Usually, one metal hook can hold an average 1-foot wind chime. The wind chime should set into place and begin to sing in the wind.
