1
Unplug the Ridgid palm sander and place the tool on a flat, sturdy surface.
-
2
Remove the three screws on the top of the sander with a Phillips screwdriver and then lift the top cover off of the sander. Under the top cover is access to the motor unit.
-
-
3
Examine the top of the motor unit. On the left and right side of the square metal piece in the middle of the unit is a wire connected to the brush assemblies. A screw is inserted through a brush clamp on both sides. The brush clamps hold the brush assemblies in place.
-
4
Remove both screws with the Phillips screwdriver and pull the clamps off of the assemblies.
-
5
Grip the head of each wire and pull it out of the connector on the brush assemblies, and then lift the brush assemblies out of the sander and dispose of them.
-
6
Slide each of the brush assemblies back into the sander. The curve of each brush should match the curve of the motor beneath it.
-
7
Press the wire heads into the connectors on each of the brush assemblies. Place the clamps over of the assemblies and reattach the screws.
-
8
Move each brush assembly by hand to ensure it moves freely within the sander. If either assembly doesn't move freely, loosen the clamp and reposition the assembly within the sander.
-
9
Replace the top cover and insert the three screws.
