How to Make a Clone Helmet

A clone helmet comes from the Star Wars characters in the Clone Wars series. The clones were made to fight for the Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The clone helmet is similar to the storm trooper helmet, but there are some minor differences. You can make a clone helmet from a balloon, paper mache and paper mache clay. Allow about three days to make the helmet before using.

Instructions

    • 1

Blow up a large balloon, such as a punching balloon, about 2 inches larger than the diameter of your head. Use a measuring tape to find the circumference of your head. Tie a knot in the balloon.

    • 2

Print out a picture of a clone helmet from front, back and side view. Use these pictures as a guide while you make your own helmet.

    • 3

Tape strips of thin cardboard around the balloon in the basic shape of the clone helmet. The helmet has a rounded top, rounded back, flat front and semi-flat sides. Tape down any corners of the helmet that stick up.

    • 4

Soak a roll of toilet paper in water until it is saturated. Squeeze out excess water and tear the paper into 1-inch pieces. Put the pieces in a mixing bowl. Add ¾ of a cup of white glue, 1 cup of joint compound, 2 tbsp of linseed oil and ½ a cup of flour. Mix the ingredients with an electric mixer for about 10 minutes. You want a paste mixture that is free of lumps.

    • 5

Use the paste to add shape to the helmet. Make a "T" shape in the front of the helmet leading from the forehead down to the lips. Add two vertical strips of paste to the sides of the helmet. Add a stripe of paste about 2 inches wide all the way around the base of the helmet. The front of the helmet should have two triangle shapes around the cheeks. Allow the paste to dry for 24 hours.

    • 6

Cover the rest of the helmet in paper mache strips. Mix three parts white glue with one part water. Dip newspaper strips into the glue mixture and lay over the helmet. Layer a total of five layers over the helmet. Allow the glue to dry for 24 hours.

    • 7

Pop the balloon. Use a craft saw to cut out a triangle shape for the eyes on the front of the helmet. Sand the entire helmet to make it smooth.

    • 8

Paint the helmet white. Glue a triangle of transparent black plastic over the eye hole to complete the helmet.
