Banshee Troubleshooting

The Voodoo Banshee is a 3D graphics processing unit developed and marketed by 3dfx Interactive. It is cheaper than most other graphics cards used for gaming purposes. Occasionally, you may encounter issues with your Voodoo Banshee graphics card. You may get error messages or your computer may act weird upon its installation. Regardless of the issue, you may follow certain troubleshooting techniques to resolve problems originating out of your Banshee graphics card.

      Check your system configuration to ensure that your computer is compatible with the Banshee graphics card. The system requirements for the graphics card is written on the outside of the packaging. If your computer does not meet any of the requirements, consider upgrading your computer.

      Fix the "Windows protection" error that may appear after installing the Banshee card. Get the latest 3dfx reference drivers for the Banshee (see Resources). Select your operating system to proceed with the driver installation on your computer.

      Disable palette snooping in motherboard BIOS setup if your boot screen or Windows splash screen show distorted color. Restart your computer. Press "F2" key during startup to launch the BIOS menu. Use the side arrow keys to select the "Advanced" tab. Use the down arrow to scroll down to "Video Configuration." Press the "Enter" key. Use the arrow button to scroll down to the option that says "Palette Snooping." Press "Enter" to select "Disable."

      Reinstall DirectX if your system locks up repeatedly. Navigate to Microsoft Download Center (see Resources) and click the "Download" button under "DirectX End-User Runtimes (August 2009)." Follow on-screen prompts to reinstall DirectX on your system. Restart your computer.
