How to Rim Votive Candles in Gold Paint

One way to embellish these votive candles is to apply gold paint to the edges. This way, you can display the votive candles in a candle dish without having to disguise or hide them inside candle holders. It is important to use only non-flammable paint when painting candles.

Things You'll Need

• Non-flammable gold paint
• Small bowl
• Paintbrush, size 2 round

Instructions

1. Pour 1 tbsp. of gold non-flammable paint into a small bowl. You can find non-flammable metallic paints at an arts or crafts supply store. These paints are water-soluble.

2. Dip a size 2 round paintbrush into water to soften the hairs, then dip the tip of the paintbrush into the gold paint. A size 2 round brush has a very small, pointed tip that will allow you to add tiny details to the votive candles.

3. Paint designs around the top rim of the votive candle using the tip of the paintbrush. You can paint a simple ring around the whole top of the candle, or you can paint patterns, such as dots, swirls or spirals. Allow the paint to dry completely.

4. Paint designs around the middle surface of the votive candle. You can make the candle look beautiful and creative by painting intricate designs. For example, you can turn swirls into tree branches, or you can make flowers out of dots that you paint onto the candle. Allow the paint to dry completely.
