Being too hot or cold on a ride and stuck in clothes that aren't comfortable or don't breathe well is a real drag. Here are some ideas on how to avoid that.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Pick shorts or pants for your ride that are comfortable and won't get in the way of your cycling. Stretch shorts and tights have few seams and the tight fit keeps material from rubbing the wrong places.

  2. Step 2

Consider wicking fabric that pulls moisture away from you and keeps you from feeling wet or cold.

  3. Step 3

Wear a breathable long-sleeved shirt. Biking jerseys are ventilated and can be purchased in bright colors for higher visibility on the road. Zippers on the front can be used for temperature control.

  4. Step 4

Select shoes that are comfortable and won't interfere with your pedals. You can also cover your shoes with waterproof booties as the weather changes.

  5. Step 5

Wear full-finger gloves with light insulation - fingers get cold first. Consider waterproof biking gloves if you live in a rainy climate.

  6. Step 6

Pull a light wind jacket over your shirt. Look for one with a front zipper for temperature control.

  7. Step 7

Buy lighter colored clothing, adding a reflective vest or clothing with reflective panels to increase your visibility on the road.
