How to Cover Picture Frames
The picture frames you buy from department stores can often seem generic and plain, but they do not have to be. One way to make the picture frames stand out and look more artistic is to cover them with images cut out of magazines and fabrics purchased at a fabric store or taken from scrap materials. This will give your plain frames an entirely new and updated look.

1
Cut out images from magazines. A few options include pictures of roses, trees, animals or abstract images. Stick with whatever interests you, or would accent the pictures you intend to put in the frames.
-
2
Cut out shapes from fabric using pinking shears. Pinking shears will cut the fabric with a scalloped edge, meaning that the edges of the fabric will appear ruffled.
-
-
3
Pour 2 tbsp. of craft glue into a bowl, and mix in 1 tbsp. of water. This will dilute the glue to use as a decoupage wash.
-
4
Remove the glass from a picture frame. You can use any size frame you prefer.
-
5
Paint the decoupage wash over the surface of the frame.
-
6
Cover the glued picture frame with the cut out pictures and fabric shapes.
-
7
Paint a second layer of the decoupage wash over the cut out pictures and fabric shapes. Allow the wash to dry completely, then place the glass back into the frame for use.
