Whether you're a writer, artist or musician, everyone runs into a mind block at some point. There is, however, a way to get unstuck. You can use creative and divine inspiration to open your mind to new possibilities you may have never realized before. When you are stuck, the important thing to remember is to try and not dwell on it. Instead, walk away to practice some steps that will improve your creative flow.

Relax. Find a spot that makes you feel calm and clear. If you can, go outside and renew yourself with some fresh air. Don't allow yourself to think about the project you are working on. As the thoughts come, let them go. The important thing to remember here is to relax, until the uneasiness goes away. The uneasiness will subside, but you have to control your thoughts that are cluttering your mind. It takes discipline.

Meditate. If relaxing doesn't help you, meditation is the next line of defense. Find a spot that is relaxing. A garden is a great spot. Meditate for at least 15 to 20 minutes, longer if you need it. Sit in a crossed-leg position with your palms up, back straight. This is how the yogi masters have been going into a deep relaxed trance state for thousands of years. Do nothing but focus on your breathing. Breathe in. Follow your breath. Breathe out. Follow again. As thoughts come, let them go with your breath. With each exhalation, you are releasing. With each inhalation, you are breathing in divine inspiration.

Take a bath or shower. Water is soothing, and it also has symbolic healing properties. It's a symbol in baptism for renewed birth. You can also create an intention, when you take a bath or shower. You can say, "With this water, I will get rid of my mind block and open myself up to divine creativity."

Accept that you are stuck. If all else fails, don't badger yourself about why you can't snap out of your mind block. You might actually make the mind block bigger by trying to resist it. The Sedona Method by Hale Dwoskin suggests asking yourself, "Can I accept this feeling of being stuck right now?" Even if you say no, Dwoskin believes that you are releasing the negativity associated with the mind block. He recommends asking yourself this question over and over, until you feel a release.

Tips & Warnings

  • Calling a friend or relative you respect or who soothes your mind can also help you get unstuck.
