1. Pick pants for your ride that are comfortable and won't get in the way. Stretch shorts and tights have few seams and the tight fit keeps material from rubbing in all the wrong places.

2. Consider "wicking fabric" that pulls moisture away from you. It will keep you from feeling wet or cold.

3. Wear a breathable long-sleeved shirt. Consider one made of a lighter, comfortable fabric that will serve as a good base next to your skin as you add layers.

4. Layer over your shirt with a heavier, warmer item, topping off with a windbreaker/parka you can adjust for temperature control. A front zipper or flaps in the armpits work well.

5. Select shoes that are comfortable and won't interfere with your pedals. You can also cover your shoes with waterproof booties as the weather changes.
