The Best Way to Join Ferrite Magnets
Ferrite magnets are iron-based, and typically larger in size than neodymium. Joining these magnets together may be necessary when increasing the field strength of a speaker, creating increased control for a speaker's voice coil. Connecting these magnets in a permanent fashion is done largely due the magnets' inherent properties.
Things You'll Need
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Cotton balls
- Safety goggles
- Cyanoacrylic adhesive
- 2 long clamps
Instructions
-
-
1
Turn the speaker cone-side down, with the magnet facing up.
-
2
Clean both magnets with the alcohol and cotton balls.
-
-
3
Apply a spiral of cyanoacrylic adhesive to the existing magnet.
-
4
Put on the protective goggles to protect against small pieces of the edges of each magnet that may chip. Lay the second magnet over the first, so that the two naturally attract.
-
5
Carefully center the two magnets by hand before the adhesive sets up.
-
6
Spread the two long clamps over the speaker's mounting ring and the newly stacked magnet.
-
7
Remove the two clamps after 24 hours, or as directed by the adhesive manufacturer.

Tips & Warnings
Remove watches or any other magnetic jewelry when working with strong magnets.
Never drop a magnet. They can easily break, or lose their magnetism upon impact.
