How to Build Small Trailer Beds

Small trailer beds make wonderful additions to craft projects when you are creating a town scene for the holidays, with the trailers carrying freshly cut Christmas trees, or perhaps filled with tiny pumpkins. Of course you can purchase already made small trailers at craft stores. However, crafting your holiday decorations that can be passed down through the generations adds special memories to them that makes them even more cherished. Building your own small trailer beds requires only a few supplies, is inexpesive and can be accomplished in an afternoon.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two craft sticks in half with a hack saw and connect them together at the corners with craft glue, forming a small square.

    • 2

Turn the square upside down and cover the bottom of the trailer bed with two or three craft sticks that have been cut in half. Glue the ends of the craft sticks to the sides of the square, laying the craft sticks side by side across the bottom of the trailer bed.

    • 3

Cut two more craft sticks in half with your hack saw and stand the craft stick halves up on their sides and form a square with them on top of the trailer bottom. Draw a bead of craft glue along the edges of the craft sticks before standing them up on the bottom and connect the standing craft sticks at the corners with craft glue. Allow the glue to completely dry.

    • 4

Make one more row of standing craft sticks on top of the first row, again cutting two craft sticks in half with the hack saw, applying a bead of glue to the bottom edges of the craft sticks and stacking each piece on top of the first row of craft sticks, while connecting the new sticks in the corners with craft glue.

    • 5

Paint or stain your small trailer bed as desired with a water based stain or acrylic paint and a paintbrush.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make your trailer wheels out of wooden spools cut across the middle, with one half of each spool glued where you want the wheels on your trailer. Paint the wheels as desired.
