How to Size a Community Swimming Pool
Calculating the overall size of a community pool involves finding out exactly how many gallons of water are in the unit. To do this, you need to know a few key pieces of information that you can obtain with any regular measuring device, including the length, width and depth of the pool. Measure your community swimming pool. If your community swimming pool is circular in shape, measure the diameter of the pool. If your community swimming pool is rectangular or square, measure the length and the width. Your calculations should be in feet.

Find the average depth of your pool. If your community swimming pool has one depth across all points of the pool, measure from the water level to the bottom of the pool to find that depth. If your swimming pool has adjusted depths, find the depth of the shallow end as well as the depth of the deep end. Add the two depths together and then divide by two to find the average depth.

Multiply the length, width and depth of your square or rectangle community swimming pool. Multiply that number by 7.5 to find the size of your swimming pool in gallons. If the length of the pool was 10 feet, the width was 10 feet and the depth was 8 feet, that would equal a multiplied total of 800. Finally, 800 multiplied by 7.5 would make 6,000 gallons of water in the pool.

Multiply the diameter of your circle community swimming pool by itself. Multiply that number by the average depth and then by the number 5.9. The result is the size of your community swimming pool in gallons. If the diameter was 8 feet, for example, 8 multiplied by 8 is 64. Next, 64 multiplied by an example depth of 8 feet would make 512, and 512 multiplied by 5.9 would make 3,020.8 gallons of water in the pool.
