How to Install a Ku Band
The Ku band is used for satellite communications, as in satellite television. You can install a Ku band yourself if you do not want to hire a service professional. Full instructions are provided with each dish, along with all the hardware needed, such as the bolts, nuts and screws that attach the mount. The guide has diagrams to assist you in installing the Ku band.

Find a good location that has a clear view to the south to mount the dish. Mount the disk in a firm location, such as the roof, on a pole in concrete, the side of a building or the chimney.

Attach the antenna mast to the location you selected. Refer to the instruction manual that came with your dish for instructions on how to attach the antenna. There are four screws that come with the dish. Drill these screws through the base of the dish onto the building to make sure the dish is secure.

Examine the mast. It is critical that the pole be mounted in a perfect vertical position. If there is any tilting in the east/west direction, the dish will have poor tracking. Screw in the adjustment bolts located on the base of the mast with a 7/16-inch screwdriver.

Put the dish on the mast through the sleeve on the back. Slide it over the top until it reaches the pivot bolt. Do not tighten the screws yet.

Run the coaxial cable from your house through the mast. Start at the bottom and work the cable through until it comes out on top.

Run the coaxial cable through the low-noise blocker arm. This arm extends out from the bottom of the dish. There are four separate connections on the Ku dish that you attach four coax cables to on the LNB. It depends on how many receivers you have in your home and how many cables you use. Twist the "F" connector on the end of the cable onto the female "F" connector on the LNB.

Slide the base of the LNB over the LNB arm. Use the screws that came with the Ku dish to secure it in place. Place the bolt through the bottom of the base and through the bolt hole on the end of the arm. Twist on the nuts tightly to secure it.

Point the dish and go inside to the receiver. Use the on-screen menu and find the dish pointing option. This shows the elevation, skew and azimuth coordinates that you need to write down for the next step.

Set the azimuth and elevation on the back of the Ku dish using the guide numbers from the previous step. Tighten the azimuth and pivot bolts securely.

Twist the dish on the mast, matching the skew point with the number you need on the skew guide. Tighten the dish securely to the mast.

Go inside and check your signal strength. You should have a clear picture on your television. If you don't, adjust the dish 15 to 20 degrees on either side until the signal is strong.
