How to Reuse Old Film Reel Projectors as a Home Decoration
Contrary to popular belief, the first projector was not invented in connection with motion pictures. Johannes de Fontana invented the earliest projector in 1420, using a lantern with a translucent window and image, which Fontana projected on to the wall. Louis Lumiere and Thomas Edison receive credit for inventing the first modern day film projectors and recorders. If you're in the possession of any old film reel projectors, you're lucky. Those items should not be in storage, but should be focal pieces of decor for your home. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Dampen a soft cloth in warm water and wipe down each camera very lightly and gently. Dip a cotton swab in the water and wipe down the hard to reach crevices of each projector.
-
2
Attach vintage tripods to your film reel projectors, if they don't already come with tripods. Screw in the tripods to the base of the projectors and display them all together at one corner of the room, pointing in one direction, or spread out evenly at all corners of the room, facing inward.

3
Display smaller film projectors on bookshelves, on top of bookcases and on accent and coffee tables. You don't have to display them one beside the other; rather scatter them here and there on tabletops in a room or place them evenly -- though not uniformly -- throughout a bookcase.
-
4
Measure the width and depth of each film reel projector and write down this figure. Screw in hooks -- large enough to support each projector's depth and weight -- into the wall, spaced apart so that they will support the width of each projector. Hang the projectors in rows across a single wall in your home.
