How to Check on the Status of an SSI Application
For people who are considered low-income by the federal government, 65 years or older, disabled or have extenuating circumstances, the Supplementary Security Income, or SSI, program gives monthly payments for living expenses. In order to receive the benefits, you must fill out an application, submit it and perform an interview with an authorized local SSI representative. The SSI program has several choices --- in person, by phone or online --- to check on your application once it has been submitted.

1
Contact the office where your SSI interview was conducted. Talking to the representative responsible will be the quickest way of checking on your SSI claims.

2
Ask for the contact information of your state's Social Security agency by calling the national hotline at 800-772-1213. For deaf and hard of hearing individuals, call 800-325-0778. If your local SSI representative cannot provide you with a status update, speaking with your state's SSI representative is another option.
