How to Stop Yahoo! Chat Messages
If you are a Yahoo! Mail user, you have the ability to send and receive instant messages right from your inbox. While this is a handy feature that allows you to communicate with your family and friends, you probably don't want strangers to randomly contact you. This is especially true if you let your children use the messenger service. Yahoo! lets you block messages from everyone except your contacts, or just from certain people.

Sign in to your Yahoo! mail account, then hover your mouse cursor over the "Options" menu. Click "Mail Options." A new page opens.

Click "Spam" on the left side of the page. The "Spam Options" page appears.

Click the first option to block everyone who isn't on your Contacts list. If you just want to block certain people, click the second option. Add the people you want to block to the list below, and click "Save Changes."

Tips & Warnings
If you block certain people from contacting you, you receive a notification when someone who isn't on your Contacts list tries to message you. You may choose to block the sender or show the message.
You can't block people who are on your Messenger List until you remove them from the list.
