How to Redo Sisterlocks With the Nappylocs Tool

Sisterlocks are similar to dreadlocks and are formed by threading the hair unto itself to create a chain of locks that binds the hair together. The chain of locks stays uniform until the hair grows and new growth begins to disrupt the look of the sisterlock. Locking new growth can be difficult since the new hair may be less than half an inch long, making it difficult for your fingers to get through. The Nappyloc tool helps to lock up short or long new growth with its needle-like end. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Thread the end of the lock into the widest part of the Nappyloc tool.

    • 2

Pull the end of the lock through the Nappyloc tool, about 1/2 inch to 1 inch. Then push the end of lock into the smaller portion of the tool with your hand.

    • 3

Pinch the end of the lock that has been pulled through the tool with the free part of the lock and the end of the tool. The pointy end, or needle, of the Nappyloc tool must be free.

    • 4

Insert the needle-like end of the Nappyloc tool into the middle of the new growth on the lock.

    • 5

Push the Nappyloc tool straight up through the entire portion of new growth until you reach the beginning of the sisterlock -- where the new growth ends and the sisterlock begins. Make sure to still pinch the end of the lock with the tool as you push it through.

    • 6

Push the tool all the way through the new growth with one hand, and pull it out with the other hand. As the new hand grabs hold of the tool, your fingers should pinch the end of the sisterlock and tool together as you had it pinched in your other hand. You've created a new lock.

    • 7

Repeat the process as many times as necessary to lock the rest of the new growth.
