How to Install Viper Car Starter on a Mustang
Some of the details of installation for a Viper remote starter will vary depending on the model year and engine size of the Ford Mustang you put it on. Carefully read the installation instructions you get on a self-installation kit for any variations of technique that depend on year or engine size. The fundamental principles remain the same. Remote starters allow you to warm up your Mustang in winter or cool it down in summer before you step into the car.

1
Start your Mustang and check all lights and systems to make sure everything is in proper working order. Do not begin installation unless all systems are working properly.
-
2
Read carefully and completely the instructions that came with your Viper Remote Start installation kit. Note any variations between techniques for 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder engines.

3
Disarm the factory anti-theft system by unlocking the driver's side door with the factory key fob. Your Mustang may also be equipped with a factory passive anti-theft device that prevents hot-wiring and tampering with the ignition switch. If so, you will need to get a transponder bypass before you can proceed with the installation.

Remove the panel beneath the steering wheel. Here you will find the wiring connections needed to connect the remote starter. These will include the power wire, ignition wire, accessory wire, starter wire, parking light wire, and brake wire. Put on the safety gloves and goggles, then identify each wire using the voltmeter, installation kit instructions, and Mustang owner's manual. Sometimes there may be more than one wire for a particular subset. For example, instead of a single heavy gauge wire leading to the accessory bundle, each accessory may have a wire. You will use a relay to connect multiple wires from the same bundle after you have disconnected the battery.

5
Disconnect the battery. Make all the connections while the battery is disconnected. Secure these connections with solder and electrical tape as directed with the installation kit.
-
6
Reconnect the battery before reattaching the panel beneath the steering wheel. Test the remote start and all lights and accessory switches before putting the cover panels back in place. If any system is not working, check the connection, disconnect the battery and redo the connection. Make sure all systems are working properly before putting the panels back together and driving the car.

Tips & Warnings
The remote start only starts your Mustang and accessories. You cannot put the car into gear and drive until you physically put the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position.
A faulty installation can damage your Mustang's computerized electronic systems. Unless you have experience working with a cars electrical system, you can best protect your warranties and be warranted against installation problems by having the installation done by a service professional.
