Call Western Union customer service at 800-225-5227. Tell the customer service representative that you would like to initiate a money transfer.

Provide information about the person receiving the funds. You will need to provide the full name of the person as it appears on his government issued ID and the country where he will pick up the money. In addition, you will need to tell the customer service representative how much money you would like to transfer and if you want the person to receive funds in U.S. dollars or in his local currency.

Provide information about yourself. The customer service representative will ask for your name, address, phone number, Social Security number and information from your government issued ID. In addition, you will have to provide the customer service representative with your billing address and credit or debit card information.

Wait for verification. The customer service representative will complete the transaction while you are on the phone. The customer service representative will provide you with a money transfer control number (MTCN). This is a tracking number you can use to get information about the current status of a money transfer. The person you sent money to can pick up the funds at any Western Union office in the country you specified in step 1 in approximately 10 minutes to one hour.
