How to Grind on a Ripstick

How to Grind on a Ripstick thumbnail
Compared to the skateboard, the RipStik has slender wheels.

The RipStik is a hybrid design of the skateboard. As opposed to a hard wooden skateboard deck, the RipStik has two foot platforms constructed of durable plastic. Instead of four urethane wheels, the RipStik has only two. The riding technique of the RipStik combines the motions of snowboarding with the tricks of street skateboarding. Skateboarders grind across rails and ledges using the metallic trucks. According to RipStik, the G model has been specifically designed for grinding tricks. The RipStik G features an aluminum tube for smooth grinds.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the grind rail on a smoothly paved surface. Lower your RipStik onto the ground about 20 feet away from the grind rail. Align your lead foot onto the front platform of the RipStik board.

    • 2

Thrust off the ground with your back foot to roll the RipStik forward. Lower your back foot onto the concave rear platform. Bend your knees to balance your riding stance.

    • 3

Rotate your hips and shoulders in a rhythmic motion to propel the RipStik forward. Shift your body weight to steer the RipStik toward the grind rail. Approach the obstacle with your RipStik parallel to the grind rail.

    • 4

Push down on the rear platform of the RipStik while jumping toward the grind rail. Rotate the RipStik 90 degrees by turning your shoulders. Align the aluminum tube over the top of the metallic rail.

    • 5

Shift your body weight forward to maintain a balanced grinding stance. Rotate the RipStik 90 degrees as you slide off the end of the grind rail. Bend your knees as the wheels of the board make contact with the ground.
