Stucco is a common covering placed on walls and on the outside of homes. You can install stucco on just about every type of surface from concrete to wood. You can also install stucco on cedar wood. The process for installing stucco on cedar is the same process for installing stucco on any other type of wood. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Roofing felt
  • Roofing nails
  • Hammer
  • Metal lath
  • Stucco
  • Trowel
  • Hand rake

Instructions

      Cover the cedar with roofing felt. Attach the felt to the wood using roofing nails and a hammer or a staple gun. Overlap the roofing felt by at least 4 inches. The roofing felt will protect the cedar from water damage.

      Install metal lath over the roofing felt with roofing nails and a hammer. Overlap the sheets of lath by 1 inch vertically and 2 inches horizontally to create a good surface for adhering the stucco.

      Install metal corner edging over the lath if necessary. Use roofing nails and a hammer to attach the corner edging. If you are not going to stucco over any corners, you can forgo this step.

      Mix the sStucco in the bucket per the manufacturer's instructions printed on the bucket.

      Scoop the sStucco out of the bucket with a trowel and apply a 1/4-inch scratch coat over the entire surface of the wall. Allow two hours for the scratch coat to firm up and then scratch the surface with a hand rake. Allow 48 hours for the Stucco to dry.

      Apply 3/8-inch layer of stucco over the scratch coat with a trowel. If you want to add texture to the stucco, use a texture tool like a paint roller. Allow 48 hours for the stucco to dry.
