An overlooked bike component, until you've spent a lot of time on it, is the saddle. Here are some things to think about when looking at different bike seats.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Consider the length of time you are going to spend on your bike; it will all be spent on that seat.

  2. Step 2

Decide whether you want a saddle that is larger, has more padding or more shock absorption. There are some very plush options out there if you want to ride in comfort.

  3. Step 3

Consider anatomically correct options. There are many selections for both men and women that can make for a more comfortable and less numbing ride.

  4. Step 4

Ask if you can swap the manufacturer's saddle out when you buy your bike. A lot of shops will give you a discount on a saddle you choose when you trade out the one that comes with the bike.

  5. Step 5

Make sure the height on your post is set correctly so that you can enjoy the comfort of your seat. At proper height, your knee should still be slightly bent at the bottom of your pedaling circle.
