Copic markers are used as high-quality media for artists. These artists' markers are useful for doing a wide array of art projects from classical floral scenes to offbeat manga creations. Copic markers provide different effects on different kinds of paper. These effects can be positive or negative, so it's important to know which paper is suitable for using the markers. Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cap from a Copic marker of a bold, deep and vibrant color such as royal blue, blood red or lilac purple. A bright, bold color is best for gauging how suitably a paper shows off the hue.

    • 2

Create a wide, bold line across the sheet of printer paper. You will notice that the color bubbles a little bit and stays wet on the paper's surface. This shows that the printer paper is unsuitable for Copic markers.

    • 3

Create a wide, bold line across the sheet of parchment paper. You will see that the effect is quite similar to when you tested the sheet of printer paper.

    • 4

Create a wide, bold line across the sheet of tracing paper. You will notice that the ink in a Copic marker is so rich that it soaks through the delicate tracing paper immediately, possibly tearing it in some parts. This shows that tracing paper is not suitable for use with Copic markers.

    • 5

Create a bold line across the watercolor paper, the sketch paper and then the sheet of marker paper. All three of these papers will display similar results depending on the color. An acid-free sketch paper is ideal, and the texture of watercolor paper adequately catches the ink of the Copic markers. Marker paper produces results similar to watercolor paper.
