Instructions

    • 1

Paint a 1/4-by-4-by-24-inch wooden board the color of your choice. Craft paints work well, but spray paint is an option. Also paint a 1 1/2-inch wooden circle for each member of your family. Let the paint dry completely.

    • 2

Cut vinyl that has an adhesive backing to form the word phrase of your choice. Use scissors or a utility knife to cut the vinyl. Word phrase examples include Family Birthdays, Smith Birthdays, Celebrate and Party Time. Letters should be about 2 1/2 inches tall. Cut out abbreviations for each month of the year in the vinyl, too. Those letters should be about 1 inch tall.

    • 3

Arrange your vinyl word phrase letters along the top half of the board. Remove the vinyl's paper backing that covers the adhesive side, and attach this sticky side to the board, pressing firmly. Attach the sticky side of the vinyl month abbreviations to the bottom edge of board. Each month should take up 1 to 1 1/2 inches. Space the abbreviations evenly.

    • 4

Attach one metal hook from a hook-and-eye set on the back of the board underneath each month using a hot-glue gun. The hooks should face the front of the board. Attach one hook to the bottom and one eye to the top of each wooden circle. Allow the glue to dry completely.

    • 5

Cut 12 inches of 16-gauge wire. Using the hot-glue gun, attach wire to the back of the wooden board near the top. The wire will be used to hang board on a wall. Write the name of each family member on each of the wooden circles, along with the date of his birthday, using a gel pen or paint pen.

Hang the wooden board by wire onto wall using a nail. Then hang each family member's wooden circle under the month of her birthday, ordering the birthdays by date. For a personal touch, add ribbon or stickers.
