How to Import Address Books to AT&T

If you have just purchased a new AT&T cell phone, then you will probably want to import your old address book to incorporate into your new phone. This process will differ depending on the type of cell phone that you have. Most modern cell phones are smart phones that allow you to connect your phone to a computer and sync data with it; this makes importing your address book a much simpler process, as long as you have your contacts from your old phone synced to your computer. AT&T offers BlackBerry, iPhone and Palm brand smart phones.

Instructions

  1. BlackBerry

    • 1

Connect your BlackBerry to your computer via the USB cable. The BlackBerry Desktop Software will open.

    • 2

Click "Organizer" and choose "Configure Settings." Click "Setup" next to "Contacts."

    • 3

Click the application on your computer from which you want to import your contacts. Click "Next."

    • 4

Click "Next" twice more and then click "Finish." This will import your address book to your new AT&T BlackBerry.

    iPhone

    • 5

Connect your iPhone to your computer via the USB cable. iTunes will automatically open.

    • 6

Click your iPhone's name in the "Devices" list.

    • 7

      Click "Info."

    • 8

Click the application or service you want to import contacts from in the "Contacts" section.

    • 9

Click "Apply," then "Sync" to import contacts to your new AT&T iPhone.

    Palm

    • 10

Tap "Contacts" from the main menu on your Palm phone.

    • 11

Select the existing service that you use to import contacts. The Palm device can import contacts from a Google account, Facebook, Microsoft Exchange or a LinkedIn account.

    • 12

Enter your details to log in to that service and tap "Done." This will import your contacts to your AT&T Palm phone.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your old phone was a smart phone, sync that to a program like Microsoft Outlook first of all. This way your old contacts will be stored on your computer.

  • If your old phone wasn't a smart phone, copy the contacts to the phone's SIM card. Place the SIM in your new phone and transfer the contacts from the SIM to the mobile address book stored in the internal memory. If you do not have any luck with this stage, you should be able to ask an AT&T representative in-store to help you.
