How to Open a Netgear Port for a Linksys Wireless B Camera on XP

Port forwarding on a Netgear router for your camera allows you to access the camera from anywhere on the Internet. Port forwarding is an option on any Netgear router, and you can set the configurations on a Windows XP computer connected to your network. You can access your camera from work or while traveling after you set up the Netgear port forward configurations.

      Click the Windows XP "Start" button on your computer. Click "Programs," then click "Internet Explorer." This opens the browser on your computer. You can also use another web browser to configure your Netgear router.

      Type the Netgear router's IP address in the address text box.The default IP address for a Netgear router is "192.168.1.1." This address brings you to the Netgear's main configuration console.

      Click the "Port Forwarding / Port Triggering" link on the left side of the window. This shows you all of your port forwarding configurations, if you have any already set up.

      Click "Add" to create a new port forwarding setup. Type a name for the configuration in the first text box. Type the port number for your camera in the "Start" and "End" text boxes. The port numbers are provided by the camera's manual. Type your camera's IP address in the last text box, which is also provided in the camera's manual.

      Click "OK" to save your settings. Click the "New Tab" option in your browser and type the camera IP address in the address text box. This tests your new settings and connects to your camera's console.
