How to Clean the Lenses of My Glasses
Cleaning the lenses of your glass serves two purposes. Aside from keeping them clean so you can see, removing dirt and debris prevents the lenses from becoming scratched. To avoid damage during cleaning you must handle your glasses carefully and clean them using proper techniques and supplies. Most eyewear stores sell commercial products to help you clean your lenses but homemade cleaners work well, too. Daily cleaning prevents buildup and is an important part of eyeglass maintenance. Things You'll Need
- Microfiber cloth
- Liquid soap
- White vinegar
- Soft towel
- Lens-cleaning papers (optional)

Hold your eyeglasses by placing the lens portion between your index finger and thumb. Place a microfiber cloth over the front and back of the lens and rub in a circular motion to remove surface dirt. Repeat this step for both lenses.

Mild liquid soap effectively cleans eyeglasses. Tackle stuck-on grime by rinsing your eyeglass lenses with cool water. Squirt a drop of liquid soap onto your thumb and rub it between your thumb and index finger. Place your index finger on one side of the lens and thumb on the other before rubbing gently to work the soap over the lenses.

Rinse your lenses with cool water. Pour a few drops of white vinegar onto each side of the lenses. The mild acidic in vinegar removes any remaining dirt or oils from skin while removing film from water.

Dry the lenses with a soft towel. If you don't need to wear your glasses right away you can lay them on a towel and allow them to air dry instead.

Handle glasses with care to avoid bending wire frames or scratching plastic lenses.
Carry lens-cleaning papers in your purse for quick cleanups. These can be purchased from an optometrist.
Dunk your glasses in soapy water then rinse for an alternative cleaning method.
