PFB files are associated with a type of PostScript Type 1 font used by early versions of Windows. Despite the age of the format, you may find some older PFB fonts to be useful and wish to import them to your Mac. The ".pfb" file type is not native to or recognized by Mac OS X, so it must be converted to a file format that the operating system can understand before it is able to be used with your Mac.

Free Font Converter Method

Navigate to the Free Font Converter website (freefontconverter.com).

Click "Browse" and navigate to the location of the PFB file you want to convert. Click to highlight the file and click "Open."

Select the "ttf (TrueType)" format in the "Select a format to convert to" box.

Click "Convert" to start the conversion, and choose a name and save location for your file.

FontConverter.org Method

Navigate to the FontConverter.org website (fontconverter.org).

Click "Browse" and navigate to the location of the PFB file you want to convert. Click to highlight the file and click "Open."

Select the "ttf - TrueType" format in the "Select Output format" box.

Click "Send File" to start the conversion and choose a name and save location for your file.

Pfb2otf Method

Put all of the PFB files you wish to convert in the same folder.

Visit the pfb2otf site (http://typophile.com/node/37659) and download and unzip the program.

Open the pfb2otf program by double-clicking its icon.

Select the folder in which the PFB files are located and click "Convert" to begin converting.
