How to Cheat at Thief: The Dark Project

Thief: The Dark Project is rare among first-person action games in that it favors stealth and cunning over brute force and overwhelming firepower. If you find yourself wishing for some brute force at times, try these cheat codes.

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

• Home Computers
• Thief: The Dark Project Software
• Microsoft Windows

1. Press Control+Alt+Shift+End while the game is running to skip the current level. Do this when you're getting caught red-handed every time you try to complete a mission.
2. Use a text editor to edit the dark.cfg file in the game directory if you want to play a specific level. Add the line starting_mission [mission number] to the file, then select New Game from the main menu.
3. Use this helpful trick if you haven't been able to steal enough cash: Use a text editor to edit the dark.cfg line in the game directory, adding the line cash_bonus to that file.
4. Take some time off for a little recreation if the stress of a life of crime is starting to get to you.
5. Go through the training section until you reach the courtyard.
6. Duel the guard until he starts to retreat, then keep hitting him until he stops.
7. Take the key from the table and go into the room where the guard originally appeared.
8. Go to the end of the hall and unlock the door with the key.
9. Go through the doorway to the basketball court!

Tips & Warnings

• These cheats will only work with version 1.33 of the game.
• A couple of these cheats require you to edit one of the game files. This isn't any more difficult than, for example, editing your config.sys or autoexec.bat files, and a lot less risky. If you're not comfortable with it, however, don't do it. In any case, always save a backup copy of the unedited file.
