Half-Life is one of the spookiest games out there, and it's not easy to shoot the aliens when you're jumping out of your socks. If you're starting to think Black Mesa might be your tombstone, give yourself an edge with these cheat codes.

From Quick Guide: Video Game Cheat Codes
Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Personal Computers
  • Microsoft Windows
  • Half-Life Software
  1. Step 1

Right-click on the Start button on the Windows task bar. (These guys must not have wanted us to cheat, 'cause they sure didn't make it easy. You will need to enable the developer's mode to input the codes.)

  2. Step 2

    Click on Open.

  3. Step 3

    Right-click on the Half-Life icon.

  4. Step 4

    Click on Properties.

  5. Step 5

Add "-dev" (but leave out the quotation marks) to the end of the field that says Target or Cmd_Line. The line should then read: C:\Sierra\Half-Life\hl.exe -dev

  6. Step 6

Hit the tilde key (~) to access the console and enter the codes. Now you're running in developer's mode.

  7. Step 7

Type IMPULSE 101 to load up on weapons and ammo if it's just you and a crowbar against the alien invaders.

  8. Step 8

Type NOCLIP to enable your character to walk through walls, floors or ceilings if you know where you need to be, but can't figure out how to get there.

  9. Step 9

Type GIVE [item] if you need a specific piece of equipment to complete a level. The item commands include: item_airtank, item_antidote, item_battery, item_healthkit, item_longjump, item_security, and item_sodacan.

Tips & Warnings
  • The aliens and soldiers are both trying to kill you, but they're trying to kill each other, too. If you encounter both at the same time, hide and let them have at it.
  • When fighting soldiers, don't sit still! Once they find you, they'll come at you from all directions and saturate your position with grenades.
  • Hit F6 to quick save every time you make it through a tough stretch. Make this a habit, if not a religion.
  • Don't try to enable developer's mode unless you're pretty comfortable with these instructions. If you screw something up, you could be forced to reinstall the game.
