1
Talk to your teenager. Let him know that you understand his fears and struggles. Find out precisely why he is afraid of driving. Does the fear come from a previous accident experience? Is he intimidated by the extra responsibility? Maybe a fear of failure is making him nervous?

2
Teach your teen the rules of the road. By knowing the rules and regulations of traffic, your teenager will feel more confident driving. By teaching him how to drive safely, you diminish any fear of causing an accident. Enroll your teenager in a driver education program to ensure he gets the best teaching available.

Teach your teenager how to drive in a large empty area. Bring him to an empty parking lot and allow him to get a feel for the vehicle. Show them the various components of the automobile and let him drive around the parking lot. Drive around the parking lot for at least 15 minutes, or until your teenager feels comfortable driving elsewhere.

4
Let your teenager drive in residential areas. Direct him through side streets that have a minimal flow of traffic. Teach him how to signal correctly and how to judge the size of the vehicle. Remember to provide an encouraging atmosphere; if you get stressed, your teenager will pick up on this.

5
Allow your teenager to drive down busy streets. Once he is comfortable, take him to busy intersections and even city blocks. Don't push him to drive where he's not yet comfortable and confident. Slowly build up his confidence by increasing the difficulty of the location. By doing so, you slowly dispel the fear of driving until he is confident to take his final road test.

Tips & Warnings
Be aware of local laws. Many states have strict guidelines about who can teach someone else to drive. Ensure that you have had your driver's license long enough to teach somebody else.
