How to Install a Viper in a Car

Viper is a company that makes a wide range of car alarms. Each one of these alarms, from the 1000 to the 7900, has the same basic functions with minor variations and additions in later models. For example, with the 5000 model you can protect your car doors, the trunk, the hood, set up door unlocking and even automatic car starting. Installing these alarm systems requires wiring the harness up in a specific manner. Deviation from this installation method will cause it to operate improperly. The different model systems are installed in the same manner.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your trunk. Find the electrical system that controls you car. Use your screw driver to remove any cover that may be protecting the system. Place the cover to the side until you are finished with the installation.

    • 2

Open your viper alarm system and check the wiring harness to make sure all your wires are attached and in good condition. There should be twelve wires, labeled H1/1 to H1/12. These move outward from the sides of your system.

    • 3

Find the wire connected to your trunk release button. Splice H1/1 to this wire using your wire scrapers and electrical tape. Only scrape the plastic protective covering on the wires, avoiding cutting the wires underneath.

    • 4

Wrap the end of the H1/2 wire to the power spike on your car battery. Screw the end of the spike into place to hold the wire in place. This supplies the 12V power that your system will need to operate.

    • 5

Find the red wire attached to the siren. The siren is separate from the wiring harness. Screw the siren under the hood. Attach the red wire to the H1/3 from the wiring harness. Ground the black wire from the siren by screwing it underneath a screw under your hood. The screw should have no wires running underneath.

    • 6

Find the positive ignition wire and splice it with the H1/4 wire and ground the wiring harness by screwing the H1/5 cable under a screw.

    • 7

Splice the H1/6 wire with the positive dome light trigger wire and the H1/8 wire with the negative dome light trigger wire. Find the dome light circuit and attach the H1/9 wire to one of the circuit screws. This completes the circuit and arms your car doors.

    • 8

Find the sensor pins for the hood and trunk of your car. These indicate when the hood and trunk are open. Attach the H1/7 wire to these pins.

    • 9

Ignore the H1/10 wire as it is only used if you install new components to your system. Splice the H1/11 wire to the parking light bulb relay wire and ground the system by screwing the H1/12 wire underneath a screw.
