How to Repair the Vinyl in a Pond
A pond liner allows you to place a pond anywhere you want in your landscaping. Its convenience allows you to add beauty to the yard, in addition to other features like fish or a waterfall. Just as a pool liner would get a tear, a pond liner is susceptible to tears or cracks -- especially since it's subjected to sunlight and varying temperatures throughout the year. If you notice a crack or tear in the vinyl, you can easily patch it up using the same tools you would for a pool. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Drain the pond to gain access to the crack or tear in the vinyl. If the pond houses fish, you'll need to remove them and place them in a large plastic bin with the appropriate water temperature during the patching process.
-
2
Wipe down any buildup or grime on the vinyl liner before applying the patch kit. The patch will be glued to the liner, so it should be thoroughly cleaned before application. A dry cloth should suffice for wiping off any buildup.

3
Trim the patch provided within the kit. You'll want the patch to cover the crack or tear and extend out from it at least 2 inches. Trim around the patch so the edges are rounded. Square patches tend to pull up on corners submerged in water, so rounding them out helps them stay secured to the vinyl liner.

4
Apply glue to the patch as directed with manufacturer instructions. Make sure the entire patch has glue so that it sticks firmly to the vinyl liner. Place the patch over the tear or crack and then press down firmly. Smooth out any air bubbles in the patch. Allow the patch to dry as directed before filling the pond back up with water.
