Installation Instructions for a Remote Start on a Subaru
Installing a remote starter kit on your Subaru could make your driving experience more pleasurable. Remote start systems can prove to be a good investment during winter's cold or summer's heat, as you can easily adjust the climate in your car from a distance. Installation of these devices is usually offered through your local mechanic, but it can also be done at home quickly and easily with the right guidance.

Check your car for any existing problems before installing your remote start. If your car's check engine light or any other warning systems are alerting you that there is a problem, talk to a mechanic about fixing these issues before installation.

Read all the instructions on your remote start kit before beginning any installation process.

Upload the software for the specific model of your Subaru to the remote start system if necessary. Some brands of remote start kits offer different wiring instructions available for download for each different model of car. Check to see if your package requires this.

Connect the wires to the remote start module. Follow the directions provided in your remote start kit to make sure that all wires are connected in the correct places.

Disconnect the car battery. Failure to do so may result in injury.

Remove the paneling from the bottom of the dash underneath the steering column. The paneling in some models of Subaru cars can easily be pried open with a screwdriver, while other models have paneling attached with screws. Check your car manual for further directions. Most remote start kits connect to the ignition, power accessories such as door locks and alarm systems, and the starter. Locate these wires by using your car manual or by downloading a wiring diagram of your vehicle.

Install the hood pin if one is provided. This slips right underneath the hood to prevent starting when the hood is popped. Not all remote start kits come with this option.

Connect the proper wires using a soldering iron. Carefully follow the directions provided with your kit.

Tuck all wires in and replace the paneling under the steering column.

Reconnect the battery and test your remote start.
