How do I Fix a Maytag Ice Maker?

The ice makers in Maytag refrigerators are designed to produce ice around the clock as long as they are turned on and as long as the ice bucket is not already full of ice. Because ice makers are almost always working, there are a number of opportunities that ice makers have to cease working correctly. When your Maytag ice maker doesn't work as it should, you can fix it to get it back to its normal working function.

Things You'll Need

  • Plastic utensil
  • Inspect the water line to see if it is connected to the rear of the refrigerator. Tighten the nut at the end of the water line where the line connects with the inlet valve. If this nut isn't tight, the ice maker may not receive ample water supply.

  • Straighten the water line and make sure the refrigerator is not resting upon it, thus causing the water not to flow through it.

  • Press the wire shut off arm down to make sure the ice maker is on. For those ice makers that have switches, make sure the switch is in the "On" position.

  • Wait 24 hours for the ice maker to produce ice after the refrigerator has been newly installed. The ice maker requires this much time because the freezer must reach the proper temperature before the ice maker will work.

  • Insert a plastic utensil into the dispenser chute and clear any stuck ice from the chute. Clearing the chute of ice allows for ice to easily go through the dispenser and drop into your cup.
