How to Search the History

All Internet browsers log every website you visit and store the information in the browser's history. The information remains there until you decide to erase it or until you set a specific date for your computer to automatically erase it. If you've ever looked at a site and forgot to bookmark it, you can access that site again from your history. Naturally, a browser's history is rather convoluted, but you can use the search function to quickly find what you're looking for.

Instructions

  1. Internet Explorer 8

    • 1

Launch Internet Explorer. Click "Favorites" at the top left of the browser.

    • 2

Select "History." Click the drop-down menu.

    • 3

Select "Search History." Enter the website or term you wish to search for, and press "Enter" on your keyboard. You can alternately search through your history categorically, such as by most visited or most recent, by clicking the drop-down menu and choosing how you wish to search. You cannot search specific websites unless you select "Search History."

Select a month if you wish to view your history for a specific month. Type your desired keyword in the "Search History" text box at the top of the window if you wish to search through your entire history. The results will automatically appear in the field below. The search function will search through your entire history, regardless if you clicked on a specific month.
