How to Connect a Konica 420 Copier to Scan

The Konica 420 is a multifunction printer, copier and scanner. It can be connected to a single computer via parallel or USB connections, but this will only allow the user to use the Konica 420's printing and copying functions. to use scanning functions, you must connect the unit to a TCP/IP network. If you do not know how to configure a TCP/IP network, it is important to request assistance from your network administrator.

Instructions

  1. Connect the Konica 420 to the Network and Obtain Network Information

    • 1

      Connect a UTP cable from a TCP/IP network to the ethernet connector on the machine. (The ethernet connector is located on the right side, toward the rear of the Konica 420.)

      Inform your network administrator that you are installing this machine, and ask if a DHCP server is available. A DHCP server will allow the machine to obtain an IP address automatically.

      If a DHCP server is available, request that the IP address for the machine be fixed. This configuration must be done on the DHCP server by the network administrator.

      If a DHCP server is not available, you will need to obtain the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway information from your network administrator.

    Configure the Konica 420

      Touch "[5 Network Setting]" in the Administrator Setting screen of the Konica 420. In the Network Setting screen, touch "[2 TCP/IP Setting]." Select "[On]" and touch "[Fwd.-->]" to proceed to the next screen.

      Select "[Auto Input]" under the "IP Address Setting Method" if a DHCP server is available. If a DHCP server is not available, select "[Manual Input]" instead and then enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway information you received from your network administrator.

      Touch "[Fwd.-->]." Select "[Enable]" under "DNS Server Auto Obtain" unless otherwise directed by your network administrator.

      Touch "[Fwd.-->]." Select "[Enable]" under "DNS Domain Auto Obtain" unless otherwise directed by your network administrator.

      Touch "[Fwd.-->]." Select "[Disable]" under "DynamicDNS Setting" and touch "[OK]." The TCP/IP settings are applied but will not take effect until you turn off the main power switch, wait for 10 seconds and then turn it on again.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is important that the IP address for the Konica 420 is fixed. If it is not, the IP address and other settings may be changed automatically by the network.

  • If acquisition of the IP address fails with DHCP, an IP address is acquired from

  • the address space of 169.254.0.0. (You may need to provide this information to your network administrator.)
