How Do I Wire an Aprilaire 500A Humidifier?
The Aprilaire 500A whole house humidifier allows you to add humidity to every room in the house through the heating and cooling duct work. This prevents the need to install individual humidifiers in every room. A whole house humidifier is economical because you only power one unit instead of many. After making all of the plumbing connections, you must wire the Aprilaire 500A humidifier. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Turn off the breaker that controls your furnace. If you are not sure which breaker controls your furnace, turn off the main breaker in the breaker box. The main breaker is always labeled.
-
2
Locate the wire terminal block on the back of the control module supplied with the humidifier. The wire terminal block is a long metal box with screws on it. The screws are segregated into groups of two. Each set of screws is labeled with a specific letter or letters. The left box is labeled "R,C", the next box is labeled, "A,B." The next box has three letters, "DDT." The next box to the right is labeled, "W/G and Cr," The final box all the way to the right is labeled "H".

3
Wire the 24-VAC transformer supplied with the humidifier to terminal "A,B". To attach the wires to the screws, back the screws out counterclockwise with a flat-head screwdriver, wrap the bare end of the wire around the screw and then tighten the screw in place clockwise with the screwdriver. This is the same procedure you follow for connecting each wire.
-
4
Attach the wire leads that extend from the outdoor temperature sensor or "manual mode resistor" supplied with the humidifier to terminal bolts "DDT". As a note, when installing the temperature sensor, you must mount it above the expected snow line.
-
5
Connect a wire from the 24-VAC accessory terminal on your furnace to the terminal labeled, "W/G". Connect a wire from the common ground located next to the accessory terminal on your furnace to the terminal labeled "Cr".
-
6
Connect the yellow 24-volt solenoid valve wires protruding from the humidifier to terminal bolts labeled "H".
-
7
