1
Place a cover over the unit to hide it, which is a low-cost solution. Remove the cover during the warmer months when the air conditioner is in use.
-
2
Install a fence made of a garden trellis around the unit. Use the trellis as a place to plant hanging vines like trumpet vines or ivy, which will eventually grow to cover the area. It is also possible to grow tomatoes, pole beans, peas and some types of melons from trellises.

3
Plant a row of mature shrubs or plants in a pattern that hides the condenser. If mature plants are not available, leave enough space between the shrubs for them to grow to their full sizes. Evergreen shrubs like juniper or boxwood provide year-round full coverage, while lilac bushes, forsythia and rose of Sharon provide height and at least some form of coverage at all times of the year. Tall ornamental grasses also provide a plant option.

4
Create a barrier around the condenser using a layer of tall boulders and rocks. Add plants and flowers in front of the rocks for color. Place a bench, birdbath, yard art or any other feature that adds to the appearance.
-
5
Build an enclosed area with the addition of walls that extend from the side of your house. Design the walls to blend in with your home, using the same siding types and colors.

Tips & Warnings
Regardless of the method you choose for hiding the unit, be sure to allow enough space to access the condenser in the event it needs maintenance or repair. Install a gate in any type of fencing. Be sure plants are far enough away so the heat the unit produces does not affect plant growth.
