A secret compartment in your car will allow you to hide important documents, money or other small objects that you don't want anybody to be able to find. Although you can build a secret compartment under your seat, or in the trunk of the car, these places are easily accessible and thus easily discovered. To keep your secret compartment away from prying eyes put it behind the dashboard.

Step 1

Disconnect the car battery before disassembling the glove compartment of the car. This is to avoid damaging the electrical system or getting shocked. This also acts as another level of security.

Step 2

Open the car's dashboard and remove all screws supporting the glove box in the dashboard of the car.

Step 3

Unlock all clips and fasteners holding the glove box in place and pull the glove box out.

Step 4

Decide on what are you going to make use as a secret compartment. You can make use of a plastic container or a magnetic hide-a-key product. You can purchase a hide-a-key holder for about $7.00 as of 2011.

Step 5

Put the item that you want to save in the storage container or in the magnetic key holder then insert it into the area behind the glove compartment

Step 6

Place the glove box back into the dashboard and reconnect the clips. This will cover the secret compartment that you just created.

Step 7

Put back all the screws of the glove box. Reconnect the battery connect the battery. Your item is now safe in the secret compartment. However when you want access to it remember to always disconnect the battery to your car first.
