Propane heaters connect to a tank of liquid propane (LP) fuel with a hose and regulator to manage the gas pressure. Although heaters come in different sizes, with varying features and heating capacities, the units start in essentially the same way. An electric ignition system offers push-button lighting. The heat control knob also serves as the gas valve to release propane to the burner. Used in tandem, these controls enable you to light a propane heater in less than a minute.
Step 1
Open the valve control knob on the propane tank by turning it counterclockwise.

Push in and turn the knob on the front or side of your heater to the "Start" or "Light" position.
Step 3
Push and hold the knob to unlock the propane valve in the heater and send gas to the unit.
Step 4
Press the igniter button on the heater so that it fully closes and makes a click sound. You may need to press the button several times on some heaters. Continue holding in the control knob once the burner ignites.
Step 5
Adjust the control knob to the desired heat setting after holding in the knob for 30 seconds.
