Instructions

    • 1

Put the stud finder against the walls of the studio you want to soundproof. Mark the wall studs with a fine-point marker. Do the same on the ceiling to find the rafters where the drywall or stucco is affixed.

    • 2

Place acoustic wall tiles against each wall, arranging them so they fit the wall and cover it entirely. If you have windows to go around, cut out a section from one acoustic tile equal to the size of the window using a utility knife. You may also panel over windows. Affix the acoustic panels to the walls using "T" pins, driving them in with your fingers or a rubber mallet. In the alternative, you can cover roll-up insulation with bed sheets and glue the insulation to the sheets.

Arrange acoustic ceiling tiles on the floor in a manner that mimics the size of the ceiling. Affix acoustic ceiling tiles to the ceiling using "T" pins with a rubber mallet or push them into the ceiling with your fingers. As with the walls, you can "stuff" bed sheets with roll-up insulation and tack them to the ceiling with "T" pins.

Lay sound-deadening mats over the entire floor. There are various types of sound-deadening mats; purchase the cheapest ones you can find. You may also use infant/toddler play mats to deaden sound reflecting off the floor. Adhere the sound deadening mats or infant/toddler play mats to tile or linoleum floors with a floor glue. This won't be necessary if going over any type of carpet but it is still necessary to absorb more sound.
