How to Modify a Sears Roadtalker Channel

The Sears Roadtalker is a base station-style CB radio. This radio operates within the Rx range of 26.965-27.405 MHz and has 40 channels to communicate with. Adjusting a modifying a channel means adjusting the dials to the prescribed channel and using a squelch to fine tune. Benefits of using the two controls are less static and clearer broadcasts. The device was sold by Sears during the mid 1970s, the height of the CB fad.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the volume switch on the far left clockwise until you feel a click. This turns the unit on. Adjust the volume to your desired level.

    • 2

Turn the large dial on the far right until the digital display reads the channel you wish to use. For example, if you are communicating with others on channel 40, set the dial until the readout shows 40.

    • 3

Listen for any broadcasts. Go to the dial just to the right of the volume-power dial. This is the squelch dial. Turn the dial counterclockwise, in 1/4 turn increments, listening to hear the eduction of static. Turn the dial counterclockwise until the static is gone, then turn it back 1/4 turn clockwise to set the modified channel.
